Changes to the way Loch-style Qualifiers will be run

Commencing with the 2015 season, boat anglers will be able to enter as many Loch-style Qualifiers as they wish. Final details of venues and dates are still to be worked upon, however, we are optimistic that we shall be in a position to take entries from mid-January 2015. A full set of Entry Process Rules and Match Rules will be available, along with a Risk Assessment. Entries and payments will be taken online or by the usual methods of post and cheque. An online database is being developed that will allow entrants to see if they lie in a qualifying place – again this should be available by mid-January. Entries will be taken centrally via a link on this website so watch this space.

AT TEFF Manager Alan Jenkins reports:

Ireland held off a strong challenge from England to claim victory in the 5th Bank International. Ireland secured Team Gold. Top Individual and Longest fish, was Ryan Mathews from England. IMG_1982b

Teams had been practising since the weekend at the superb Chatton fishery. Using Dunnydeer and Ross Lakes the fishing was very consistent and challenging. 120 fish were caught in total on competition day, rod average 5 fish per rod.  Weather had been blustery during practice and the fishing challenging, until competition day and the wind dropped, temperatures rose and the teams targeted rising fish. After the morning session Ireland had a narrow lead over England with Scotland and Wales a little distance behind.  A consistent team effort saw Ireland maintain their lead to secure the ‘Founding Nations Cup’. IMG_1985b

Team Ireland Campbell Baird (Captain) Brian Kerr, Harry McAteer, Joe Quinn, Conor Cunningham, Hubert Smith and Manager Darren Wallace. Individual Winner Ryan Matthews England – 10 fish  – 5 Place Points  – 10,640 Fish Points Longest Fish: Ryan Matthews England with a fish of 63cms

Chatton fishery proved to be excellent hosts with superb facilities complimenting the close competition, and my sincere thanks to Roger and his wife Ali.

Brown Bowl: Phil Dixon, England – (19 fish)

Full Results: iffa2014autumn

AT Team England FF have followed their victory in the Spring Home International at Lough Owel with another convincing performance on Brenig. Well done to all of the AT Team England FF team: Team Photo Brenig copy 2

Phil Dixon (captain), Lee Bartlett, Paul Bebb, John Bowen, David Currie, Peter Elliott, Ryan Feber, André Gysler, John Hood, Tim Joyce, Michael Laycock, Gary Owen, Simon Robinson, Mark Rose & Paul Angell (manager).

Paul, our new Loch Style Manager for the Autumn International team reports: “After three days practice in light wind and often bright sunshine, the teams from the four home nations took to the water on match day, in overcast conditions with a slightly stronger breeze and a wind shift to a steady Southerly. The boats scattered to various parts of the lake, with many heading to the Northern end of the lake which had been producing fish all week. However, the change in conditions had obviously affected the fish, and soon boats were seen moving to other areas to try to locate fish that were willing to take, with varying degrees of success.

The England team tactics were to use Boobies, Dabblers, and foam-bodied Daddies on a variety of lines, according to the depth at which the fish were found on the day, popping the flies through the surface to start with, and holding on the hang at the end of the retrieve. Team captain Phil Dixon led by example, putting together a Brown Bowl winning score of 19 fish, eight more than his nearest rival, and was well supported by his team members who came in with a total of 94 fish, ten ahead of Scotland in second place, Wales with 64 in third, and Ireland with 51 in fourth.

I regard this as a great team performance, based on the sharing of knowledge and ideas to develop a winning strategy, and an outstanding captain’s performance to comfortably take the individual top position by Phil Dixon.

The team wish to thank all the sponsors of Team England Fly Fishing for their help and support, and particularly Craghoppers for supplying the team clothing for the event.”

AT TEFF England A – Team Silver

Alan Jenkins, AT TEFF Manager reports: The first ever 5 Nations Fly Fishing Competition proved a great success as part of the Stirling International Angling Festival. The Competition attracted multiple teams from France, Ireland, England, Scotland and one team with competitors from both Belgium and Luxembourg. The event was fished at four venues – the River Carron, the River Devon, Carron Valley Fishery and the Lake of Menteith.

Robert Brown Individual Winner - Gold

Robert Brown Individual Winner – Gold

Team England B took Gold with Team England A taking Silver and Team Scotland A collecting a very creditable bronze. The medal team results are here 5N Top 3 Teams 2014

The Individual Gold was won by Robert Brown – England A, with Silver going to Kenny Riddell – Scotland A, and Bronze to Paul Lee – England B. The full individual results are here 5N Leader Board 2014

The success of the event was only made possible by the support from local clubs and fisheries who allowed the use of their waters for both competition and practice. Thanks must also go to the large number of volunteer controllers, officials and sector supervisors, who gave up their time to help make this event such a success. The feedback from the competitors was full of praise for the venues and the enthusiasm and helpfulness of the volunteers.

Paul Lee Individual Third -Bronze

Paul Lee Individual Third – Bronze

It has been some time since England Fly Fishing entered two teams A & B to compete in Internationals. A decision to decide who fished in which team wasn’t that difficult as all eight anglers have equal angling abilities. Both teams all agreed from the beginning the only way was to ensure they all shared flies methods and tactics, both teams worked as one with the results showing AT TEFF winning the Gold and Silver medals and Individual Gold and Bronze.

I must say it was an honour and privilege to act as team manager to a great team of anglers, with such talent it bodes well for AT TEFF for future Internationals both at home and World and European championships.

My sincere thanks to SANA and Gillies Breckenridge and all those involved for their assistance in this inaugural International competition.

The event next year will be held in Ireland.
