Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships 2014

2011 AW Template A4The Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships are currently being held in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.  The venues are: Lake sessions: Siblyback Lake, Fernworthy, Kennick & Wimbleball Reservoirs – River sessions: East & West Dart, with Burrator, Avon Dam and Roadford being used as practice venues.

15 teams are taking part, including Mens’ and Ladies’ teams from Australia, Scotland, New Zealand, South Africa, Wales, Canada, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

The England Ladies’ Commonwealth Team is: Sheena Goode, Lisa Isles, Janice Sharp, Janet Till, Heather Lamacraft and Lynda Carthew.

The England Mens’ Commonwealth Team is: Andrew Gooding, Stuart Wardle, Bernie Maher, Simon Kidd, John Tyzack, Steve Ebdon (Reserve), and Captain & Manager Dave Grove.

Day One – First Session

Simon Kidd scored a 2nd place for England Men on Wimbleball, with John Tyzack 10th on Kennick, Stuart Wardle 10th on Siblyback, Andrew Gooding 11th on Fernworthy, and Bernie Maher 7th on the River Dart. Out of 15 teams, England Men were lying in 9th place, with England Ladies 12th. Australia Gold Hoppers were in 1st place: TEAM-SESS-1

Day One – Second Session

Andrew Gooding won his session on Wimbleball for England Men, with Simon Kidd 7th on Kennick, John Tyzack 6th on Siblyback, Bernie Maher 5th on Fernworthy, and Stuart Wardle 2nd on the River Dart. England Men moved up to 4th place, with England Ladies 13th. Scotland Men are in 1st place: TEAM-SESS-2 Individually, Glen Eggleton (Australia Green Hoppers) is 1st, with David Chalmers (Scotland Men) 2nd: IND-SESS-2

Day Two – Third Session

England Men had another good session, with Bernie Maher coming 3rd on Wimbleball, Andrew Gooding 11th on Kennick, Simon Kidd 3rd on Siblyback, Stuart Wardle 9th on Fernworthy, and John Tyzack winning his session on the River Dart. England Men moved up to 2nd place, behind Scotland Men at 1st, with England Ladies 12th: TEAM-SESS-3 Individually, David Chalmers (Scotland Men) moved into 1st place, with Mick McKay (Australia Green Hoppers) 2nd: IND-SESS-3

Day Two – Fourth Session

England Men continued to do well, with Stuart Wardle coming 12th on Wimbleball, Bernie Maher 1st on Kennick, Andrew Gooding 2nd on Siblyback, John Tyzack 2nd on Fernworthy (behind England Ladies winner Lisa Isles), and Simon Kidd 6th on the River Dart. England Men kept their 2nd place with 115 pts, behind Scotland Men at 1st on 97 pts, with England Ladies 10th: TEAM-SESS-4 Individually, the top two changed placed, with Mick McKay (Australia Green Hoppers) moving into 1st place on 6 place pts, ahead of David Chalmers (Scotland Men) 2nd with 12 place pts: IND-SESS-4

Day Three – Final Session 005ab

In the fifth session, John Tyzack won his session on Wimbleball, Stuart Wardle came 7th= on Kennick, Bernie Maher was 2nd on Siblyback, Simon Kidd 2nd on Fernworthy, with Andrew Gooding 3rd on the River Dart. Final Positions: England Men held onto Silver medal with 138 pts, behind Scotland Men getting the Gold on 125 pts. England Ladies finished 11th: TEAM-SESS-5 Mick McKay (Australia Green Hoppers) was the Individual Commonwealth Champion with 8 place pts, with Kenneth Ferguson (Northern Ireland) 2nd with 15 pts, and Glenn Eggleton  (Australia Green Hoppers) 3rd with 16 pts: IND-SESS-5

34th FIPS-Mouche World Championships, Czech Republic, 25th May-2nd June 2014

The competition will be fished on three river sectors, one boat sector, and one bank sector. The sectors will be: Sector 1 – Vltava 29 P (river); Sector 2 – Vltava 29, Lake Lipno (boat); Sector 3 – Vltava 28 (river); Sector 4 – Malse 6, lake Kvetonov (bank); Sector 5 – Vltava 27 (river). Session One: Andrew Scott was 7th, Phil Dixon was 4th, and John Horsey 6th on the river sections, with John Tyzack 7th on the lake (boat), and Howard Croston 20th on the lake (bank). England are currently 5th, behind the Czech Republic 1st, Belgium 2nd, USA 3rd, and Finland 4th. Team positions after 1st session: session-1-teams

Session Two: Phil Dixon won his session on the lake (bank), while Andrew Scott also did well on the lake (boat) finishing 3rd. On the river sections Howard Croston was 6th, John Tyzack was 7th, while John Horsey was 16th. England have moved up into 3rd place on 75 pts, behind the Czech Republic 1st (49 pts) and France 2nd (70 pts): TEAMS-AFTER-SESSION-2. Jean Guillaume Mathieu (France) is currently top Individual, with two first places, with Phil Dixon lying 5th, and Andrew Scott 14th: INDIV-AFTER-2-SESSIONS1

Competition – Day Two

Session Three: England was the top team in Session Three. On the river sections Andrew Scott came 2nd, Howard Croston 5th and Phil Dixon 7th. On the lake (boat) John Horsey came 3rd, with John Tyzack 7th on the lake (bank). England had moved up to 2nd place (99 pts), 20 points behind the Czech Republic 1st (79 pts), and ahead of France in 3rd (102 pts): TEAMS-AFTER-SESSION-3. Lubos Roza (Czech) was currently top Individual on 7 pts, with Phil Dixon 5th and Andrew Scott 6th (both 12 pts): INDIV-AFTER-SESSION-3.

Session Four: On the rivers sections John Tyzack was 1st, Phil Dixon was 6th, and John Horsey 9th, with Howard Croston 15th on the lake (boat), and Andrew Scott 4th on the lake (bank). England were now 3rd with 134 pts behind France 2nd (125 pts) and the Czech Republic 1st (109 pts): TEAMS-AFTER-SESSION-4. In the Individual rankings, Lubos Roza (Czech) hung onto his 1st place with 12 pts, with Andrew Scott 4th (16 pts) and Phil Dixon 5th (18 pts): INDIV-AFTER-SESSION-4.

Competition – Day Three

Session Five: Andrew Scott was 6th, John Tyzack 15th, and Howard Croston 17th on the river sections. John Horsey was 5th on the lake (bank), with Phil Dixon 9th on the lake (boat). England finished in 3rd place with 184 pts, behind France 2nd with 166 pts, and the Czech Republic World Champions with 149 pats: TEAMS-AFTER-SESSION-51. Lubos Roza (Czech) is the new Individual World Champion with 14 pts. ahead of Piotr Armatys (Poland) 2nd with 22 pts, and Andrew Scott (England) 3rd, also with 22 pts: INDIV-AFTER-SESSION-51. Well done AT Team England FF and Andrew Scott!!

In preparation for the International a squad day was held at Chatton on Saturday 29th March. Roger Brown, owner and host of Chatton Fishery, and his wife Ali, hosted the day and kept us supplied with bacon & egg sandwiches, team & coffee. The Team fished Ross lake and Dunnydeer lake, with all the team catching. The biggest fish was caught by Graham Robinson, who accompanied the team and supplied the photographs. Proper Grantz Logo

AT Team England appoints 2014 Loch Style Management Team and Team Captains

Angling Trust Team England Fly Fishing are delighted to announce the recent appointment of our new Management Team for the England Loch Style Teams.

Stephen is our new Spring Loch Style Manager taking the Team to Lough Owel in Ireland for the Spring International in May 2014.

Bio: Age 40, currently employed as a Manufacturing Production Manager for Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics, a global medical devices company. I have over thirty years fly fishing experience with twenty years dedicated to competitive fly fishing. Represented England  at Loch Style 4 times winning three Gold medals and captaining the side in 2002 at Loch Leven to Gold. In addition I am a member of the Ospreys Fly Fishing Team and over the years have been fortunate to fish with and learn from some of the finest anglers the UK has to offer.

Paul is our new Loch Style Manager for the Autumn International team travelling to Llyn Brenig in Wales in September 2014

Bio: Age 59, a retired schoolteacher from the West Midlands with almost 40 years experience of fly fishing. I have represented England at Loch-Style 3 times between 2011-13, including captaining the side at the Lake of Menteith in 2013. In addition I am Chairman of “The Nomads” Flyfishing Club and act as an education advisor for the Countryside Alliance Fishing 4 Schools project

Both Stephen & Paul have full individual responsibility for their respective Teams however what makes the appointments unique is that they also create a combined management team sharing resources and knowledge across both Teams as well as support to each other when its England’s turn to host the Internationals. They will be key Members of the AT TEFF and AT TEFFIC Committees and will be working hard to bring success for Angling Trust Team England Fly Fishing, introducing real improvements and development opportunities for our top International anglers to help make Team England the No1 Fly Fishing Nation.

In addition we are pleased to announce the Captains for the 2014 Loch Style Teams will; be Mark Withyman  from Avon for the Spring team and Phil Dixon from Staffs for the Autumn Team.

All the best guys lets all get working together to bring home some gold medals.

International Rivers Championship, R.Ure – Controllers Wanted

Friday 27th June 2014 – River Ure, Wensley, North Yorkshire

Volunteers are required to act as controllers on the day (provisional times 8.30am-18.30pm). Previous experience is not necessary, however you do need to be reasonably fit. There will be 20 competitors, each of which will have a controller allocated to him.

In recognition of their support, controllers will be rewarded with a choice of either: (a) £25 towards their expenses, or: (b) A ticket to the International Dinner on the 27th June in the evening of the International at The George Hotel, Piercebridge, Co Durham.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced person to join the Angling Trust’s Team England Fly Fishing management team.

The Angling Trust is looking to recruit person(s) to manage Spring and Autumn Home International Loch Style teams. Angling Trust Team England Fly Fishing manages all elements of international competitive fly fishing. The successful candidate will undertake a variety of functions ranging from talent identification, selection and development to competition and event management.

International Team Managers and their assistants are critical to the development of the International Teams, team members and prospective team members. Furthermore, they are central to the smooth running and organisation of the team, team members prior to, during, and following International competitions and events.

The ideal candidate will possess competitive fly fishing experience at international level, excellent communication skills, have experience in managing or leading teams, and have attained or be committed to attaining UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling.

This role will contribute to Angling Trust’s vision of making Team England Fly Fishing the number 1 team in the World.
