Angling Trust’s Team England Fly Fishing announced today its World and European teams for the forthcoming 40th FIPS Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship and 26th FIPS Mouche European Fly Fishing Championship.
The 40th FIPS Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship will be held in Kuusamo and Taivalkoski regions, Finland from August 11th to 18th, 2020.
The Championship will be held over 5 sessions fished at 5 venues; rivers Kitkajoki and Kuusinkijoki as well as lakes lmäluoma, Petäjälampi and Koverrusjärvi. The World squad are expected to fly out to Finland before the Championship for venue practices and tactical development.
The squad will be led by the 2019 World Champion Howard Croston as Captain and Manager with Team Members, Michael Dixon, Scott Nellins, Terry Phillips, Harry Fox and Davey Parker. This will be Howard’s 12th world cap. The Team has 20 World Team and 14 European Team caps between them. Finland has been a challenge for both Team and Individuals in the past.
World Team Captain and Manager Howard Croston stated: –
“The team has been carefully selected to deliver the best chance of success in Finland, with a combination of new Talent but also a heavy bias towards experience. There are a number of unknowns in this championship including the use of whitefish lakes that we have little experience in fishing; however an early practice has already been completed on the Venues by an advance practice squad that has given us a good base to work on in the run up to the event”
The 26th Fips-Mouche European Fly Fishing Championship will be held in Stor-Elvdal and Rendalen in Norway 6th – 12th July 2020.
The Championship will be fished during 5 three hour fishing sessions, and fished on the Atna River, Upper and Lower Glomma River beats, Mistra River and Storsjøen lake. The European squad are expected to fly out to Norway before the Championship for venue practices and tactical development.
The squad will be led by Andy Croucher as Team Captain and Manager; along with Harry Fox; Tony Baldwin; Bernie Maher; Gilliaum Vermeulen and reserve Ben Bangham. Andy lives in Norway and has represented England previously at European Championships. The Team has 3 World Team and 9 European Team caps between them and Norway has been a favourable venue for both Team and Individual medals in the past.
European Team Captain and Manager Andy Croucher stated:
“I am very honoured to be the manager for Team England in the forthcoming European championships in Norway. The Competition Rivers and lake provide a good mix of fishing for both trout and grayling. The anglers will need the full arsenal of techniques, and I will be focusing all my efforts on preparing this team to challenge for the podium places.”
